KaloBios Bolsters Development Expertise with New Chief Medical Officer and SVP, Regulatory Affairs, Quality and Project Management

PALO ALTO, California, June 8, 2007 – KaloBios Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a privately held biopharmaceutical company, today announced two additions to its senior management team that significantly increase the company’s medical and regulatory expertise. Tillman Pearce, M.D., previously Senior Director, Clinical Research at PDL BioPharma, has joined KaloBios as Chief Medical Officer. Carmen M. Betancourt, previously Senior Vice President, Regulatory Affairs, Quality Systems and Project Management at VaxGen, has joined the company as Senior Vice President, Regulatory Affairs, Quality and Project Management.

Tillman Pearce has approximately 15 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry in both Europe and the United States. He comes to KaloBios from PDL BioPharma in Paris, France, where he held the position of Senior Director, Clinical Research and directed their European office. Between 1997 to 2002, Dr. Pearce was Medical Director at Sanofi Synthelabo, S.A. in Paris, France, in their Oncology Business Unit. Prior to that, he held the position of Director, Clinical Research at Novartis Pharma AG in Basel, Switzerland. Dr. Pearce received his M.D. from the Medical College of Georgia and is board-certified in both internal medicine and hematology.

Carmen Betancourt joins KaloBios with approximately 30 years experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, specializing in biologics/biotechnology products. During that time, she has held positions of responsibility in Regulatory Affairs, Quality Systems (QA/QC), Project Management, and Research. Most recently she held the position of Senior Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, Quality Systems and Project Management at VaxGen. Prior to that, Ms. Betancourt was Vice President of Regulatory Affairs at Titan Pharmaceuticals and also held managerial positions at Coulter Pharmaceuticals and Genentech Inc. Carmen holds a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of California at Davis, and a Masters in Business Administration in International Corporate Management from Golden Gate University.
